The lower photo is the side view of my latest violin, the back archings of which were shown on the previous blog.
The wood is very striking and is from the same log as the back, and the scroll.
the edges are still square, and will be rounded when the body is finally purfled. I like this method of building, where the final outline is done after the body of the fiddle is glued together.
Making a perfect and symmetrical outline is boring to look at and tedious to do. It was not done in the Classic period, and is pointless.
The other shot is of the bass side of the late period "Carrodus" del Gesu. He was not a fan of symmetrical outlines!
