This is the first coat of varnish on my new cello, based on a Guarnerius of 1692. The cello has a beautiful mineral ground coat under the varnish, which glows through the the varnish, as well helping make the very full and carrying tone these instruments have.

The back of the cello is pin knot willow, nearly thirty years old. It shows different colours in different lighting, and from the viewing angles. It looks stunning.
