Our Open Day was a huge success.  Many thanks to everyone who came, inspected instruments,  saw the workshop, played, drank coffee and ate the magnificent cakes. It's always a good day.  The next planned one will be in the Spring.

I am now finishing a new cello. This is a Guiseppe Guarneri 1692 model. The wood for the front is broad grained spruce, and is covered in deep and wide hazel markings, referred to as Bear Claw in the U.S., much like the original. The back and sides are willow

The photos show the cello in the process of applying its ground coat, the layer that separates the wood, and the varnish proper.

My new website is up and running. It is intended to be updated regularly, and added to in any suitable way. Comments welcome.

I am beginning to make another 15 3/4', 398 mm.  Gasparo da Salo Viola. The previous one is now happily residing with its new owner, a professional player.  And a late Guarneri del Gesu model violin is also taking form, with a deeply figured two piece back and sides.
I will happily post any progress onto anyone interested in the making process.
