I also have begun to make bespoke Conductors' Batons following a request from a well known conductor. These have been very interesting to make, and are not as straightforward as may appear. These are made in one piece, unlike most or all commercially available ones, and take into account individual preferences for weight, balance, length and other variables. Most people seem to like a feeling of no or little weight in the hand for instance.
I am making them in Maple, or sometimes Ash.
My new viola is now ready for delivery to its new owner, and I will publish pictures in the next blog.
