This is the back of the now completed violin, that was shown on my last blog. The varnish is a deep madder red. It has a very strong carrying sound, and works equally well played soft or loud. L.O.B. 353 mm. A Guarneri del Gesu model with that slightly shorter stop that makes for ease of playing.
I am currently making a copy of the 1692 Guiseppe filius Andrea Guarneri cello that is in the Royal Academy collection in London.
This instrument has a willow back and sides as the original. It should be available end of August / early September.
In May we had a very good trip to Wiltshire to Jackdaws, to give a talk and demonstration of Instrument making., at Elizabeth Turnbull's Viola course there. The setting of this small centre is idyllic, by a river at the end of its own road. If you play viola, Elizabeth's courses are superb.

I will be in Kelso this weekend with a viola and a fiddle or two. Please ring my mobile 07973 835 466 if you would like to meet.
