The wood in the photos is for my next viola and violin - Guarneri del Gesu model violin, and a 16inch, 407 mm Brescian model viola. Brescian instruments were very freely made, but with great skill. It is a way of making I like very much, and I try to use the same freedom of approach to making a viola of that period and style. This very high quality wood is part of a batch of 20 + backs I bought a while ago, mostly from the same tree.

The violin photo is of the soundholes, corners and "c" bouts of the Baron Heath del Gesu, 1743. The soundholes show a very relaxed approach to design, and are shorter then on many of his instruments. The fiddle still sounds amazing!
