The viola in the last post is now complete. It has a very beautiful and transparent oil varnish, and a superb sound. It is currently available.

The attached photo is of the arching and edgework of Jascha Heifetz's violin, made by Guarneri del Gesu. It shows the Brescian influence on his work at the time, and the roughness of the finish compared to Stradivari or Aamti's work.
I was lucky enough to examine this violin at length a while ago.

I am now making a violin loosely based on the Baron Heath del Gesu of 1743, which I saw in 1985, and again earlier this year.
