This viola is a copy of a Paolo Testore viola of 1751, and is the second of this model to be made in the workshop. It has a back length of 15", 381mm. The first of these has a large and carrying tone with a remarkable "C" string.  This viola will have the same characteristics in the tone.
The very lovely back is made from European Maple cut on the slab with a diffuse figure and some bird's eye marking. The top is from some old Italian spruce with some hazel markings. I have had this wood for many years, and I have used it to good effect before.
The instrument should be ready in about three weeks time.
