This is the back of the new violin with it's " antique" varnishing. This varnish has a soft lustre, retains much of the natural patina, and is not made shiny and over-polished. In the right light it shines and appears deep, transparent, and with very lively colour. The wood is deeply figured Romanian maple; I have a few more pieces available for any commissioned work.
This violin should be finished next week. Please ask for any further details.
Side detail.
The back of the scroll shows the rather pointed end typical of some late del Gesu work along with the unremoved tool marks. The eyes of the scroll here are are angled in the same wild fashion, often seen in the same period of the makers' work.
